Indie Game of the Day: The Hive

The best way for me to briefly describe ‘The Hive’ – an entry to the YoYoGames ‘Discovery’ Competition by Vanni del Moral in 2010 – is that it’s my kinda shit.

A beautiful 2D platformer with bright, vibrant, gorgeous pixel graphics, fluid movement, great gameplay and generally enjoyable, you play through the game as investigative reporter Alex Rig in an attempt to uncover the explanation to some recent mysterious disappearances of hundreds of people. Fighting guards, mutant and bosses with just a taser and your camera to begin with, the game brings to mind the likes of Prince of Persia or Daniel Remar’s Iji — and if you’ve played Iji, you’ll know that’s only a good thing. A very good thing.
