EA Closing Facebook Games, Including SimCity Social & The Sims Social

The Sims SocialEA’s Facebook game activity has apparently taken a nosedive as of late, meaning that the company will be retiring Playfish and of all their Facebook games in the coming months.

Purchased in 2009 by EA for $300 million, EA have generally been backing out of the mobile and social gaming market recently — closures of EA Mobile Brazil, BioWare Social and layoffs of 160 EA Mobile Montreal employees last week hint that the company’s mobile exploits have not fared well for the company.

From June 14th, all of Playfish’s Facebook games — included SimCity Social, The Sims Social and Pet Society — will go offline, with only Madden Social 13 safe due to it being developed by EA Tiburon as opposed to Playfish.
